Traffic is at a standstill on the island of Fota after a single accident

Traffic is at a virtual standstill near Fota Island in Cork following a single-vehicle crash on Monday morning.

The incident happened shortly before 10.30am on the R624 Cork to Fota Road. Emergency services personnel and members of An Garda Síochána attended the scene, but a Garda spokesperson confirmed the Irish examiner that no injuries were reported.

However, the road remains closed to traffic and a timeline for when it may reopen has not yet been confirmed.

It follows a pair of separate crashes on the N22 in Cork on Monday morning. The first incident occurred on the N22 Ballincollig bypass, westbound near the Ovens exit, shortly after 8.30am.

The second collision occurred on the N22 eastbound at Farran Cross.

It is not yet known whether anyone was injured in the collisions.
