Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Opening Date Announced by Disney Parks During American Idol

During American Idol on May 12, The Walt Disney Company announced when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure would open to the general public so guests could ride the attraction. This is a very special announcement because Disney’s Earnings Call happened last week and there was no mention of it apparently important addition to Disney Parks. Some have speculated that the reason Disney decided not to make the announcement at that time was because the earnings report also included information that Disney World (where Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open) attendance and revenue is expected to be “soft” during the quarter of the ride. is added to the park’s portfolio. By announcing it during a television show instead, the company may have tried to distance the appeal from criticism that it won’t impact attendance in a positive way.

As you may know, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has faced significant controversy since its announcement. Despite Splash Mountain being Disney World’s top-rated attraction according to polls, it was destroyed due to racial issues and its replacement is coming in June of this year. For some, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a great new ride that they can’t wait to enjoy. For others, it’s a virtue signaling that has ruined a beloved adventure. Whatever the case for you, there’s no denying that a lack of visitors during opening is a bad sign for Disney.

There has also been significant speculation about the Juneteenth holiday and when Disney might open the right. Our own WDW Pro has reported rumors that the ride could open during the holidays, according to his sources. While the ride opening to the general public later than Juneteenth might lead you to believe the reporting is incorrect, we’ll have to wait and see if Disney uses Juneteenth as a “media day” or cuts the ribbon first. The opening day for the public is often not the same as the ceremony of these attractions.

Here’s what Disney Parks Blog has to say about their official public release:

Just as we celebrated our exciting news live on television with that spectacular performance by Jenifer Lewis, we celebrated it in New Orleans with the culture and people who helped inspire both the film and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. PJ Morton – five-time Grammy Award winner and collaborator on the attraction’s soundtrack – and members of the Chase family joined Princess Tiana and Louis in the heart of the Crescent City.
