Inside Housing – Home – Associations looking for new developers following the collapse of a £117m turnover company

“We are now looking for alternative contractors to complete our two unfinished developments that were built by ARJ. We will continue to keep all our future residents who have been affected informed,” a South spokesperson said.

Dacorum Borough Council’s Paradise Depot development in Hemel Hempstead is expected to include 56 homes for affordable rent.

A spokesman for Dacorum said: “Activities on site have now ceased as the contractor has gone bankrupt. The current focus is on ensuring the site is safe before agreeing a revised plan for the future of the site.”

They said work on installing the foundations had already started.

Greatwell Homes is looking for a new developer for Dappletree Court, an £18 million development in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

The site, due for completion by the end of 2025, is expected to contain 57 supported accommodation apartments, 17 of which will be available as part of the older people’s shared ownership scheme.

Julie Robinson, executive director of Greatwell Homes, shared Indoor housing: “Our thoughts are with the affected ARJ Construction staff, many of whom will be as surprised as we are by this news, given the independent guarantees and evidence of solvency that have been provided very recently.

“As our flagship development is in the early stages of construction, we will now secure a new developer capable of meeting our original construction completion deadline of late 2025, to minimize any impact on our pipeline and our residents.” to a minimum.”

ARJ began the demolition and redevelopment of twenty flats on the site known as Hearnden Court in September 2023, which were part of a self-contained housing scheme.

Notting Hill Genesis has listed ARJ in its development contractor framework, but said it currently has no new build contracts with the company and would monitor the outcome of the administration process to see if ARJ should be removed.

There are more ongoing projects on ARJ’s website, including The Gates, a development of 119 affordable homes in Bedfordshire for Settle Housing, and PA Housing’s Britannia House, an 87-home development in West Molesey, Surrey.

The Gates already suffered a previous setback when the project’s previous contractor, Jarvis Contracting, came into administration in March 2023.

PA Housing and Settle Group declined to comment.
