Berne Union primary school receives Momentum Award

SUGAR GROVE – Berne Union Elementary School has received the Momentum Award from the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce for their results on the 2022-2023 Report Cards. The Momentum Award rewards neighborhoods and buildings that have demonstrated outstanding performance improvement while continuing to show growth.

“We are proud to be honored with an award that recognizes the hard work of our dedicated staff and amazing students who strive for excellence every day,” Berne Union Elementary School Principal Melissa Drury said in a news release. “This honor reflects the efforts of our teachers, administrators and support staff in advancing student achievement and success. We are excited to share this achievement with our community.”

The Momentum Award is earned by a local education agency (LEA) that has improved its performance index by three or more points from the 2021-2022 report card to the 2022-2023 report card and received a value-added rating of four or more stars. Districts and buildings are not eligible for this award if they receive an overall rating of five stars.

In a letter to the school, Stephen D. Dackin, director of the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce, said: “This remarkable achievement reflects your unwavering commitment to excellence and the outstanding services you provide to your students and community. It recognizes the dedicated faculty and staff who consistently go above and beyond to ensure that all students receive exceptional education and instruction.”
