In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kanan, Suchitra Pillai shared old memories while discussing her professional challenges. The actress emphasized how to make a choice, where sometimes opportunities come with ‘something’ like the casting couch. The actress noted at one point that everyone has to deal with it, playfully saying she had an “intimidating look,” which showed she didn’t deal with it enough.

The actress further said that she was offered a big South Indian film directed by a renowned filmmaker ‘with a very big good actor in the lead’, in which she was offered to play the sister of the main character. The film was supported by a first-time producer.

She went on to narrate the disturbing incident, saying, “He (the man who called her for the film) then said that a new producer is financing the project. I thought he was asking for a discount on my fees, but he said, “He’s a first-time producer, so there’s little compromise necessary.” I said sorry.’ He reiterated, “Madam, he is a first time producer, little compromise is needed.”

The Dil Chahta Hai actress further added that the man kept telling her that the “director-actor thing is fixed, but since the producer is new, that’s why it’s only necessary once.”

The actress then angrily shut him down by bluntly telling him, “You have the wrong person and the wrong number.” While the actress admitted that some people choose to comply with requests to “compromise” for the sake of their work, she emphasized that this could never be her choice.

She added: “In the industry there are often opportunities that come with strings attached. Experiences with casting benches are not uncommon..”

Suchitra Pillai was last seen in Amazon Prime Video’s Big Girls Don’t Cry, starring Pooja Bhatt and Mukul Chadda.
