Date and details announced for Africa Day in Kilkenny

This year’s Africa Day in Kilkenny will take place on Saturday 1 June from 12 noon to 5pm in Kilkenny Castle Park.

As part of Africa Day Kilkenny the following activities are planned:

The Acholi Dancers from South Sudan perform their traditional dance.

The AHA Storytellers will share and promote their African heritage, folklore and traditions through creative storytelling, poetry, song, dance, acting and drumming events.

A fashion show showing African clothing and sharing its origins.

Intercultural exchange between Africa, Ukraine and Ireland with the Kilkenny Ukrainian Community Performers showcasing Ukrainian culture, and the Irish dancers of the Tobin Family.

A taste of different African dishes – snacks that everyone can enjoy.

Africa Day is the annual global celebration of the people, cultures and opportunities of the African continent.

This year, all 31 local authorities across Ireland will be hosting a variety of cultural, artistic and family-friendly events.

These include contemporary African-Irish culture, as well as family fun days, fashion, art, film, music, dance and food events, which will take place in towns and cities across Ireland.
