Open call for film submissions for the upcoming Festival of Pacific Arts

Pacific filmmakers are invited to submit films for the upcoming 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPAC), held June 6-16 in Hawaii. The announcement was made by Pacific Islanders in Communications (PHOTO) who lead the Film and New Media Program as part of FestPAC.

The organizers believe that the 13e Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPAC) is the world’s largest celebration of indigenous Pacific Islanders, taking place from June 6 to 16 and being held for the first time in Hawaii.

The theme will be “Ho’oulu Lāhui: Regenerating Oceania.”

PHOTO Executive Director Cheryl Hirasa will serve as the festival’s program director, in partnership with Hawai’i International Film Festival (HIFF), for film and new media programming aimed at elevating filmmakers and connecting storytellers across Oceania.

“FestPAC is an incredible opportunity to gather and exchange ideas at the intersection of filmmaking, Pacific and Indigenous stories,” said Cheryl Hirasa.

“We are a proud partner of FestPAC and work together with HIFF will provide a space to showcase and encourage dialogue with our talented community of filmmakers and creatives in the industry from Hawaii and throughout the Pacific.”

Non-delegated representatives from participating Pacific countries were also encouraged to submit their films for consideration in the programme.

However, the submission dates are open from May 14 to May 20. The selected films will be announced no later than May 31 and screened during the festival circuit at the ‘Emalani Theater at the Hawai’i Convention Center.
