Galway crowned the best staycation spot in Ireland as the country’s ‘most popular’ city

Ireland’s best staycation spots have been revealed, with Galway coming out on top, according to new research.

With summer fast approaching, Galway proved to be the most popular spot; more than 1 in 3 people crowned it their ideal place to stay. Meanwhile, other top locations included Cork, Killarney, Wexford and Waterford, but Shannon failed to impress.

When asked about people’s biggest travel woes, sitting next to someone with poor hygiene was one of the top candidates for air travel, with a whopping 61% citing long queues as their general travel annoyance, according to Betfair Casino’s research.

With the rise of staycations in recent years, many Irish holidaymakers are choosing to explore the beauty of their own country – from the breathtaking landscapes of Donegal to the bustling streets of Dublin.

And now, according to new research from Betfair Casino, Galway has been crowned the best staycation spot this year, with more than 1 in 3 (37%) Irish respondents choosing the picturesque west coast city. Renowned for its coastlines and breathtaking views, Galway is also home to a number of towns and villages where you can make your base and embrace the close-knit sense of community.
