Subsidies for cycle paths

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced April 29 that it has opened applications for up to $2 million in funding for projects that strengthen safety and improve cycling infrastructure in communities across the state. The Kim Lamphier Bikeways Grant Program is a competitive program focused on building networks for cycling infrastructure improvements, including better connecting trails and roads, and improving last-mile connections to work, school, shopping and public transportation.

The Bikeways Grant Program supports projects that maximize access to bicycles, fill missing links in the state’s bicycle network and improve last-mile connections. Established in 2011 through the Maryland Transportation Trust Fund, the program has funded 234 projects to date, totaling $38.3 million. This grant cycle makes an additional $2 million available for locally initiated projects.

Project eligibility criteria, a map of past projects, the program overview and more information are available on the Kim Lamphier Bikeways Program website. The deadline for applying for grants is May 31 at 5 p.m
