Forecast for the DC area: Today’s cloudy and humid weather will continue at times into the weekend

A somewhat subjective assessment of that day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: “Gray May” continues with similar cool, damp conditions as Tuesday, but we should see some drier times towards the end of the day – even a hint of sunshine.

  • Today: AM rain, PM showers. Highs: mid 60s to near 70s.
  • This evening: Lower rain chances, patchy fog. Lows: mid-50s to low-60s.
  • Tomorrow: Continued decrease in the chance of rain, windy. Highs: 69-76.

Today is still cool and unsettled, just like yesterday, and we could see some rain showers causing some pockets of flooding around DC and points south of the city. Rain intensity – even cloudy skies – will taper off towards the end of the day, perhaps allowing for a few rays of sunshine. Rain chances will decrease, especially at the end of Thursday and much of Friday, with more periods of cloud sometimes being possible.

Today (Wednesday): Periods of rain will continue from sunrise into the morning, with the possibility of some patchy fog. By the afternoon the rain should become lighter, more rainy and sporadic. A few storms mid to late afternoon are also possible, especially if we see extended periods of sunshine (which can destabilize the atmosphere).

The wind from the east and northeast can reach wind speeds of up to 25 km per hour. High temperatures will peak in the low to mid 60s to near 70 degrees in the least cloudy spots. Confidence: average

This evening: We could see some occasional clearing as the chances of stray showers and their potential intensity both decrease over time. If we see a thunderstorm passing through, it may be earlier in the evening hours. Fog patches are also possible. There will be a light but somewhat steady breeze blowing from the north, while low temperatures will drop into the mid-50s around 60 degrees around sunrise. Confidence: average

Tomorrow (Thursday): The chance of a shower decreases over time, but cannot be completely ruled out even during the afternoon. In general, gray skies may give way to some sunshine, especially late in the day.

There may be noticeable breezes from the north at times, with gusts of up to 30 km per hour on occasion. Temperatures are aiming for at least a little warmer, from the upper 60s to the low to mid 70s in the sunnier spots. Confidence: average

Tomorrow evening: An evening shower remains possible, but not a great chance. It may be partly cloudy for the most part as low temperatures once again target the mid 50s to low 60s. Confidence: average

Very low chances of rain (about 10 percent) Friday with clouds dominating more often than not. There is some hope for some partly sunny skies at times, but we will have to wait until we get closer. The potential return of more pleasant conditions should allow for even warmer high temperatures within a few degrees of 75 degrees. The chance of showers could slowly return overnight, with known low temperatures in the mid-50s to low 60s. Confidence: average

The weekend, especially on Saturday it looks quite cloudy and wet at the moment. Given this, high temperatures are preferred to be at the lower end of their potential broad range, with the best bet for highs being in the mid 60s to around 70 degrees. Of the two days, Saturday will likely be rainier. As we try to dry out Sunday, a few showers may linger early in the day, especially in our southern areas. Low temperatures at night can aim for the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium
